By now, the glaciers that the author talk of and climbs on have largely vanished. It is, though, an interesting snapshot in time. ![]() Here, he seems to be more in his own emotionally and for this the story suffers. In those books there was a strong bond that the narrator develops with others. Unfortunately, I feel that this book lacks much of the soul and elegance of "The White Spider" and "Seven Years in Tibet". The author was a talented writer as well as climber. It's an interesting read of a distant and fascinating place. This is an account of Heinrich Harrer's visit to New Guinea to make the first ascent of Carstensz Pyramid (also known as Puncak Jaya ) and other nearby peaks. ![]()
